Privacy Policy
Last updated 16 September 2026
Hi5 helps you find activities and events near you and connect with the people going. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account details — your email address, display name, and (if you add them) a profile photo emoji, bio and city.
- Sign-in with Google — if you choose Google sign-in, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
- Approximate location — with your permission, your device location is used to show what is happening within about 10 miles of you. It is used on your device to centre the map and filter listings; we do not store a history of your movements.
- Content you create — activities and events you host, posts, Hi5s, comments, and messages you send to other members.
- Usage and device data — basic technical logs such as browser type and error reports, used to keep the service working.
How we use it
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To show activities, events and people near you.
- To deliver Hi5s, messages and notifications between members.
- To answer your questions in the in-app assistant. Your question and a short list of nearby public listings are sent to our AI provider to generate a suggestion. Do not put sensitive personal details in assistant questions.
- To prevent abuse, investigate reports and comply with the law.
What other people can see
Your display name, emoji, bio, city and trust level are visible to other signed-in members. Activities and events you host, and posts you publish, are visible to members browsing the app. Direct messages and Hi5s are visible only to you and the person you send them to.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run Hi5 — hosting and database, authentication, map tiles, and the AI assistant provider — and only as needed to provide the service, or when required by law.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time — see the account deletion page for how — and we will remove your profile, posts, activities and messages within 30 days, except where we must keep records to comply with the law.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may request a copy of your data, correction of inaccurate data, or deletion. Email hi5usacalifornia@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
Hi5 is not intended for anyone under 13, and some activities set their own minimum age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Security
Data is stored on managed, access-controlled infrastructure and transmitted over encrypted connections. No service can promise perfect security, so please use a strong, unique password.
Changes
If we make significant changes to this policy we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
